Who We Are

The Oakland County Amateur Radio Public Service Corps (ARPSC) is an organization of public service minded Amateur Radio operators dedicated to serving our community in a time of need.

Our primary mission is to provide essential emergency communications in the event of a failure of existing public safety systems or in times where the magnitude of an event may overwhelm the capacity of traditional communication platforms. The ARPSC is the umbrella organization for the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) in Oakland County. The group operates under the jurisdiction, control, direction and authority of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). Leadership of the ARPSC is determined by the ARRL's State Management which appoints a leader for the County organization with the title of Emergency Coordinator/Chief Radio Officer. The Emergency Coordinator in turn appoints Assistant Emergency Coordinators to assist in a variety of command and support functions. The ARPSC headquarters is located at Oakland County's Emergency Operations Center.

The ARPSC works directly with various agencies serving the County. These include Oakland County's Homeland Security Division, the National Weather Service, hospitals in or serving Oakland County, the County's Incident Management Team / Communications Support Team, local municipalities, CERT teams and other County departments.

Our services range from providing backup communications capabilities to assisting at community events such as the Woodward Dream Cruise and the Brooksie Way Half Marathon.

Membership is open to all Amateur Radio Operators in good standing over 18 years of age living in or near Oakland County. No membership fees or dues are required. To join the ARPSC simply complete, print, and sign the online application, download and complete the Background Check document and fax it to 248.858.5550 or mail it to:
